Starting 16 March 2021, Il Sole 24 Ore lands on newsstands with a more compact, practical and classy format, and with a vertical orientation designed to offer more usable information and enhanced readability. On top of all this, a new tempo for content, new sections and a new app full of innovative features provide all the information needed to understand, in a clear, complete and authoritative way, the world of real economy, finance, tax and regulatory developments of our Country with an eye also on what’s happening on the international front.
The new Il Sole 24 Ore comes in the "Rhenish" format, switching from the 40x56 Broadsheet to the 35x53, with one column less, making it more user-friendly. A format that differs from the classic "Tabloid" adopted by most other newspapers in that it is longer. The new layout enhances the re-sized pages that gain a vertical scope, offering a more dynamic read and greater focus on what matters.
And thanks to the clearer organization of news items on the page and useful and straightforward summaries, readability and overall distribution of content has been improved.
The new Il Sole 24 Ore comes therefore in a smaller format, to allow room for more content, thanks to leaner but richer texts. Each article will in fact open with all the key news, followed by in-depth analysis. Commentary, interviews and analysis will be complemented by news and investigative reports. The tables, charts and infographics, the hallmark of Il Sole 24 Ore, will increase and become more immersive.
Graphically speaking, there are three elements that contribute to improved readability: a larger article body, which uses and further enhances our proprietary fonts, Sole Serif and Sole Sans; greater line spacing; less chance to squeeze the articles to keep a seamless reading flow. A major effort on selection and great attention to detail, with focus on containers: boxes, figures, photos, graphics.
The new tempo of the newspaper sees, after the focuses, a single page on politics, offering readers the news they need to understand the economy and with the items to stay current on the political day, followed by the section on world news, which changes its name from "Mondo" to “Economia e politica internazionale", to emphasize the notion that the news delivered by Il Sole 24 Ore on what’s happening on the international front is always connected to the understanding of economy and finance.
Double space is given to the section dedicated to commentary, analysis and insights, which represent the added value of a print newspaper: two pages that transcend news reports, covered generously by the site, to spark new ideas for reading news and to lend space for discussion and debate, allowing readers to form their own opinions.
The business world and real economy are treated under the section renamed "Imprese e Territori", where the local area opens up to the World, where local boundaries become increasingly liquid, requiring a global perspective, in order to enter the heart of real economy with a spotlight on the main players; and now, with the new reading experience of the newspaper, the section will be followed by vertical pages dedicated to the hottest topics for economic and production activities and then by the theme dossiers.
The vertical pages form a weekly schedule covering all the main supply chains and industries: Salute 24 is back on Tuesdays, Lavoro 24 on Wednesdays, Nova Tech 24 on Thursdays, Moda 24 on Fridays, Food 24 and Motori 24 on Saturdays, in addition to Scuola 24 on Mondays and the new vertical pages on Sundays dedicated to information focusing more on leisure: Viaggi 24, Sport 24, Arredo Design 24 and Tech 24, complementing Nòva 24 Scenari by adding product information.
The theme dossiers, on the other hand, offer an account of the major transformations and trends and the stories that inspire businesses through targeted insights and investigations on the most important supply chains and industries in the economic fabric of our Country. A narrative chronicling the developments taking place in the key strategic areas of the Italian economy, the trends and the strategies adopted by industry players, and the market challenges and innovations, excellence and the future.
Il Sole 24 Ore's theme-based flow continues with the "Finanza e Mercati" sections, bringing news and in-depth analysis spanning from Italy to international finance, regulatory issues, the bond market and commodities, and - the brand new feature - focus on the world of savings & investment, previously covered only in the Saturday Plus24 insert. Followed by the veteran "Norme & Tributi", with all the updates and the outlook on tax, work, justice, public administration and economic law.
The newspaper wraps up with Indici & Numeri, a cornerstone for businesses and savings & investment, with a new feature: the TRANSPARENT COMMUNICATION initiative. A virtuous communication system in the print newspaper and on the website, whose aim is to become the trusted source for transparency in financial communications.

Il Sole 24 Ore was born on November 9, 1965, by the merger of two renowned Milan daily newspapers "Il Sole" and "24 Ore", and it is one of the oldest newspapers still in circulation and the main financial newspaper in Italy. Casa 24, the section covering both the residential and non-residential real-estate market, which offers a perspective on the market players, features specific insights for the Construction and Renovation area, broadening the analysis and coverage of the home system.
Monday offers greater space to the school world to become a vertical section: School 24, a new section that intends to dig deep into the field, now more than ever before an ever-changing world.
New developments for Plus 24, the weekly savings & investment magazine that provides savers & investors every Saturday with a tool to understand the financial markets. Plus24 is the section that will benefit most from the changed format of Il Sole 24 Ore, because it takes on the same size as the pages of the newspaper. A golden opportunity to rethink and expand content, offering readers even more relevant information on savings & investment, stock markets and beyond.
The layout of the Sunday issue changes to add generous space to the news stories of the day and to report on the day’s events, alongside pages offering investigative reports, insights and in-depth analysis of the traditional topics of Il Sole 24 Ore.
Inside, vertical pages treating the pleasures of life, with the "Weekend" section enriched on three fronts: Travel24 with stories from the travel world from the point of view of the industry players and new products; Tech24 explores product innovations, with a focus on new market developments; Arredo e Design 24 anticipates market trends.
New features also for the staple cultural insert "Domenica", which now has a page dedicated to TV series, daily companions in the lives of many Italians, and another page on book rankings.
